2010 Highlights

{Though it was hard for me to narrow it down, I was finally able to summarize my favorite looks from 2010 into collage form.}

I can't believe 2011 is already here. 2010 was filled with so many wonderful opportunities, extravagant surprises and dazzling events. I never knew that blogging could open so many windows and doors for me. From modeling for Coach to meeting some of my favorite fashion icons: Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung. These were once just dreams. I still can't believe my luck of previewing collections at private parties in Soho, being elbow to elbow with Kelly Cutrone at the Mara Hoffman Spring Collection Show, attending New York Fashion Week, sitting front row at Ports 1961, attending a blogger brunch in the In Style Lounge, meeting with the Lucky magazine and Loft teams, making new friends and spotting one of my favorite models in the showroom, Anna Selezneva. Seeing Freja Beha open Ports 1961!!! The wish list I comically made in my journal when I first began blogging came nowhere near close to the amazing journey I have had the lucky chance to embark upon this year. I take nothing for granted and only hope to grow and learn even more in 2011.

Fashion has always played a large role in my life. Whether I am studying it, evolving with it or simply sharing it. I am very thankful for my amazing readers and supporters. Your feedback motivates me.

New Skirt, Meet My Blog

When I saw this skirt my immediate reaction was "I'm going to remix the h out of you, skirt." And when I have that strong of a reaction, I know that what to do. So I bought this skirt with my Christmas money on super sale (hello, 50% off!) and I love it. I'm having to tell myself not to go back to Loft, I just can't help myself when I see the words 50% off. It's like winning the lottery, but better. OK not better. But my chances of saving money are much higher than winning money. Of course, my chances of spending money either way are very high. This is why I should never play the lottery. Shopping is risky enough.

I talked my husband into taking me out to lunch and then talked him into snapping some photos. And then I talked him into marrying me. Oh wait, I already did that. No wonder he was confused when I got down on one knee and proposed.

If you can't tell, this week I am silly. I'm still running on the Christmas-spirit fumes. Don't worry they'll go away in a few days and then I'll be back to my dry, humorless self. Till then, it's silly time.

How I wanted to wear this outfit:

Alright so yes, I might be wearing the same shirt I wore yesterday. It's just so pretty and I was still feeling romantic, so I put it back on this morning. If wearing a shirt twice in one week is a crime, then lock me up. My one call will be to Loft. To bring me more shirts to wear over and over again.

I also wanted to wear just this shirt with my skirt but Texas has apparently decided that it's winter and I couldn't go without a jacket. One day the weather will do what I say and coordinate with my closet, until then I must comply.

Also, as you can tell my shirt has MAJOR static cling. Even after taping multiple dryer sheets to my body, it still clings. Seriously, nothing worked. What can I say? Cute clothes love me. I just can't keep them off of me.

Hotel in Sweden

Here is a selection of images of the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, including the Art Suites created by artists from around the world. The temporary hotel is created from snow and ice each winter.

Discover the arctic ice hotel in Kiruna, Sweden with Ashley & Leasa. During our February visit it was -35C. Awesome!

An ice hotel is a temporary hotel made up entirely of snow and sculpted blocks of ice. They are promoted by their sponsors and have special features for travelers who are interested in novelties and unusual environments, and thus are in the class of destination hotels. Their lobbies are often filled with ice sculptures, and food and beverages are specially chosen for the circumstances.

All of the ice hotels are reconstructed every year, and are dependent upon constant sub-zero temperatures during construction and operation. The walls, fixtures, and fittings are made entirely of ice, and are held together using a substance known as snice, which takes the place of mortar in a traditional brick-built hotel.

The ice hotel near the village of Jukkasjärvi, Kiruna, Sweden was the world's first ice hotel. In 1989, Japanese ice artists visited the area and created an exhibition of ice art. In Spring 1990, French artist Jannot Derid held an exhibition in a cylinder-shaped igloo in the area. One night there were no rooms available in the town, so some of the visitors asked for permission to spend the night in the exhibition hall. They slept in sleeping bags on top of reindeer skin - the first guests of the "hotel."

The entire hotel is made completely out of ice blocks taken from the Torne River - even the glasses in the bar are made of ice. The hotel has more than 80 rooms and suites, a bar, reception area and church. The hotel only exists between December and April. Each room is unique and the architecture of the hotel is changed each year, as it is rebuilt from scratch.
